In this tutorial, we’ll talk about formatting your text in PowerPoint. When conveying information, the text is an essential factor in creating a good impression. Therefore, making it appealing and noticeable to the eyes is very necessary. If you’ve ever used word processing software, most of these icons should look familiar. Following the below steps, reaching as many people as possible has never been easier.
Formatting the Text
- Open your PPT file.
- Select the text you need to edit.
- Go to the Home tab, you’ll find Font group, which includes many useful customizations related to the typestyle. They are perfect tools to modify the text.
- To choose a font for the text: select your content, then click the Font drop-down arrow to show available fonts. Click the one that suits your need. After that, the text will change its font instantly.
- To change the color of your selected text, click the arrow next to Font Color to select your desired color.
- If you’d prefer to choose a color not shown on the list, click More Colors.
- Go to the Custom tab, import the RGB or HSL values into the boxes to get your desired color.
- About your text size, to change it, select the text first, then drop down the Font Size arrow and choose the most suitable value.
- You are able to enter a specific value, click the Font Size text box (not the drop-down arrow), import your own value, and press Enter.
- Besides, to increase or decrease the font size one step at a time, click the Increase Font Size or Decrease Font Size buttons, or using shortcut keys: Ctrl + Shift + > for increasing, Ctrl + Shift + < for decreasing.
- We have some options: Bold, Italic, Underline, and Shadow for your text, located below the Font and Font Size setting.
- To bold a text, just select it and click the bold button. That text has been bolded automatically.
- To italicize text, select it, then click the Italic button
- And select the next option to draw a line under your text if you need to highlight your content. To do so, click the Underline button.
- You can use the last one to add a shadow to your text.
- Note: You can apply more than an option for your text at the same time.
- If you’d like to cross out some words in your content, select them, then click the Strikethrough button ( next to Shadow setting)
- Finally, you can remove all the formatting from your text. Select those words and click Clear All Formatting.
Next are Alignment Options
- After entering your text, don’t forget to align it to give your content a neat and professional look. It’s the key to impress your audience and keep them focus on your presentation.
- You can choose to align horizontal or vertical thanks to options located on the Paragraph group. First of all, select the text that you want to align.
- To align the text left or right: On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Align Left Button image (Ctrl + L) or Align Right Button image (Ctrl + R).
- Center the text horizontally between the side margins: On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Center (Ctr + E)
- The next button is Justify. If you’d like to keep each line in your text has the same length, then click that button.
- If you want to align the text to the top, the middle, or the bottom of the text box, click the Align Text drop-down arrow. Then select Top, Middle, and Bottom options, respectively.
- About the direction of the text, select the text and click the Text Direction drop-down arrow. You’ll see the list of options, then pick the one that suits your need.
- Also, you can use the Line Spacing options in the Paragraph group to change the spacing between the selected lines. Simply click the drop-down arrow and determine the most suitable value for your text.
- Moreover, if you want to enter a custom value, choose Line Spacing Options. Type your own values, and click OK.
- Moreover, Format Painter is a helpful tool that we want to recommend to you. You can quickly apply the same formatting of a text to another one.
- First, select the text that has the formatting that you want to copy.
- Go to the Home tab, click Format Painter. After that, the cursor will change to a paintbrush.
- Use it to paint over a selection of text you want to apply the formatting. You’ll see the text change instantly. However, this only works once, you have to repeat the previous steps to continue applying the copied format to another text.
- To change the format of multiple texts in your slides, double-click Format Painter after selecting the text whose formatting you want to copy.
- Finally, to stop formatting, press ESC or click Format Painter again.
